Privacy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Wet Plant has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is collected about you. This page says exactly what does happen, including the parts that are not nothing.
What is stored on your device
The iOS app stores nothing. It used to keep one setting, a frame rate preference, in its own sandboxed storage. That setting was removed along with the picker itself, so the app no longer writes anything to the device at all. Its privacy manifest still declares the old storage use under Apple's required reason CA92.1, which is now a leftover declaration rather than a description of something the app does.
The website stores nothing at all. No cookies are set, and the map view you are looking at lives in the address bar rather than in storage, which is also what makes a view shareable as a link.
What leaves the device
Repeated requests, for the disruption feed. To show which parts of the network are having a bad day, the app asks wetplant.vercel.app/api/telemetry for the current reading. It asks once at launch and again about every 45 seconds for as long as it is open, because the reading goes stale; the website does the same while the tab is open. Each request sends no account, no identifier, no location and no body of any kind. Like every request on the web it does carry your IP address and your browser or device's user agent string, because that is how a reply gets back to you. The website additionally fetches the cable dataset itself the same way.
What that endpoint does. It asks Georgia Tech's IODA project for current country-level internet reachability alerts, joins them to the countries each cable lands in, and returns the result. It writes nothing down about who asked. IODA receives a request from the server, not from you, so your address is never passed on to it.
Hosting. The site and that endpoint run on Vercel, which keeps ordinary server access logs (IP address, time, path, user agent) as any web host does. Those logs are operational. They are not used to build a profile of you, they are not combined with anything else, and they are not sold or shared.
Links you tap. Opening a cable's source page or a licence link hands that address to your browser. From that point you are on someone else's site under their policy, not this one.
Tips
Both the app and this site have an optional tip. It unlocks nothing, hides nothing and changes nothing, which is true of both, and each is free and complete either way.
In the iOS app, Apple handles the entire transaction. Payment details never touch the app and are never visible to me. All I ever learn is that a purchase completed.
On this site, the Tip control is an ordinary link to Ko-fi, and nothing about it runs here. The cup icon is drawn by this page rather than loaded from Ko-fi, so no request reaches them and no cookie of theirs is set unless you click through. If you do, you are on Ko-fi's site under their policy, not this one, and they handle the payment. All I ever learn is that a tip arrived.
What is not collected
- No account, email address, name or password, because there is no sign-in.
- No analytics, product telemetry, session recording or crash reporting SDK. There is none in the app.
- No advertising identifier, no IDFA, no ad network, no third-party tracker.
- No location. The app never asks for it and never uses it.
- No contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health or motion data.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking. Apple's privacy manifest for this app declares tracking false.
Children
Wet Plant is a map of infrastructure and is suitable for any age. Since nothing is collected from anyone, nothing is collected from children either.
Changes
If the app ever starts doing something this page does not describe, this page gets updated in the same release that changes the behaviour, with the date above moved forward. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest signal.
Contact
Wet Plant is made by one person. Questions about any of this go to somekidpaul@me.com and reach me directly.
